We know Father’s Day is probably going feel a little different this year. But that doesn’t mean it has to be any less of a celebration, especially when you’ve won the dadslotto! Just as with Mums, we know there is no one type of Dad. So, we’ve racked our brains to come up with some awesome Dad-worthy ways (and gifts!) to celebrate your #1 man, 2020 style.
1. Write Dad the best card ever
How do you put all your love, thanks and laughs into a single card for Dad? It’s tricky, but it can be done, with the help of our card making pals Wally Paper Co and Able and Game. These cards have the perfect balance of humour/feels, complete with some pretty neat illustrations.
We’ve got cards for New Dads, Melbourne Dads (we see you and your Queen Victoria Market tote bag), Restrained Dads, and Superhero Dads. Find our entire Father’s Day range here.
2. Make Dad his very own cocktail kit to chase down 2020!
We know this year has been a bit of a drag… So, help Dad chase down the mayhem and make some fancy cocktails with our awesome barware range. This is a gift Dad wouldn’t necessarily buy himself but is one that he would LOVE to receive. Whisky sours, anyone?
We’ve got all the barware staples you’ll need: Bartender’s Mixology Kit? Sorted. Whisky Stones? You betcha! A Deluxe Decanter to add some old school charm to his drinks trolly? Why of course.
3. Get in the garden and help Dad start a veggie patch!
There’s no denying many of us have a lot of extra time on our hands, and contemplating a slow-burn project for Dad’s Father’s Day gift – such as finally starting that veggie garden – is no longer a pipedream. This is a great way to great to get the whole family outdoors and into the garden too!
Our friends from Little Veggie Patch Co are here to help get this green thumb project underway, with their handy how-to-cards that will give Dad the lowdown on planting, growing and harvesting of his favourite fruit and vegetables. Shop the Little Veggie Patch Deck of Cards here!
4. Read a book aloud with Dad
Sure, you could give dad a tie. Or some golf balls, or whatever else dads seem to like. But why not give him the joy of snuggling up on the couch for a read with his #1 fans? We’ve got books celebrate dads in all their forms, and that special bond between a father and his kids.
One of our favourite books at NPJ is With My Daddy by Jo Witek, which is a sweet story about a little girl and the special bond only a daughter and father can share. We can't go past The Lost Dads Home or Dad Dancing: A Guide for Embarrassing Dads Everywhere either (cos we all know the reason dads were put on this planet is to embarrass the rest of their family!).
5. Play a game or do a puzzle
It’s true, Dads can have a bit of a competitive side, so why not break out the games and indulge them this Father’s Day. Whether you're in the mood for a puzzle or spot of quirky cards, this a super quarantine-friendly activity that Dad will love.
6. Have the ultimate iso picnic!
Assemble your quarantine crew, make some delicious treats, grab a picnic blanket, then head out into your backyard or set up camp in the living room! Dad will definitely enjoy the early springtime sunshine and some fun picnic games – especially when it’s with his fave people.
Our ‘Really Big Picnic Rugs’ by Geelong based brand Picnic Season are the perfect accessory to this very special picnic for Dad. And trust us, these rugs really are big enough to fit the whole gang!
Serve up your snacks on our beautiful Robert Gordon Pottery Cheese Board! And don’t you dare forget dessert! We think a bar of Hey Tiger Co is the most delicious way to say thanks to Dad.
7. Help Dad get his socks in order with our very fun sock range!
Your dad stays buttoned-up these days, but we hear he was pretty wild in his younger years! Help him take a trip down nostalgia lane in a pair of funky socks. Bamboozled socks are made from sustainably sourced bamboo and are super soft and luxurious.
8. Take Dad online shopping
We know, we know: Most dads would rather do...pretty much anything else than shop. But if you send him along to NPJ’s “Something for Dad” tab, you KNOW he will find something he loves. Once he's made his selections, make sure you and your siblings pick up the tab.
Still not sure about what to get Dad? Let us do the work for you with our 'Little Love for Dad Box'. This is the perfect no fuss box for the Dad who already has everything!
